Final Week, Physical Studio Typography

After deciding to continue forwards with my favourite typeface, the runic inspired one, I traced out 26 identially sized spaces on the graph paper and began to draw them, using rulers and pencil, before using pens to finish them up.

Week Two Physical Studio Typography

This is the continuation of last weeks work, where the typeface styles I initially conceptualised are fleshed out into full, yet still sketched, alphabets.

Week One, physical Studio Typography

Here we were tasked with learning about three typographers, and using their influences to help inform the starting basics of our own set of type, making three distinct typefaces for the letters A, N, E, S and G.

The first typeface I began developing was based upon a runic design, partially inspired by the alphabets used in The Lord of The Rings.

The second was slightly more geometrically informed, using only straight lines with a cartoonish extrusion and shading.

The last was extremely geometrically informed, being created exclusively with triangles.

Cinema 4D logo

In one of the longest process and production workshops; we all learned how to create basic objects within Cinema 4D and manipulate them, altering their shape and form, as well as their possition in space, and animate them moving and constricting within this space.

We also learned how to nest different objects and functions, as well as create materials to change the way these objects look.

Finally, we used light in order to give our logos depth whilst they were animated, culminating in the final product.

Photoshop tutorial

Using the pen tool in photoshop to create an intricate and interesting line that is then duplicated and spaced equally beneath the previous line, a very visually interesting effect is created, which is further enhanced using both the inner and outer glow options, as well as shadow.

Illustrator Process and Production

Using illustator's vector making tool, and selecting different colour compositions to alter and create the ideal feel and composition; I created a poster in a similar vain to the "Hope" poster, used by Barak Obama in 2012, for a TV show character as a pseudo-poster.

Final Year Animation

This animation was created using all the skills learned across the entire time spent learning about after effect, using keyframe animation in both rotation, scale and position; as well as smoothing and composition and effective use of speed.

3D Typography

This after effects animation makes use of After Effect's built in ability to work in 3d space, manipulating a floating camera around text to make a narative.

About Me

I was told to make a blog, for university, and people took this very seriously. And I'm not saying that I haven't (or that there's anything wrong with serious) but I think the best work is made when you are having fun and enjoying what you do. So I'm going to make this enjoyable; both for me and those who end up reading it. And what's more fun than being corporate?! Wait. That doesn't sound correct at all. No matter! I've turned this blog (and myself!) into a brand! A company! An idea... and as batman always says, ideas can't be killed. (But I can please don't kill me) Wow. I am getting sidetracked. Fun! Excitement! Intrigue... These are some of the things you may or may not find here. Because it's mostly going to be graphics work. And writings, about graphics work. Probably both... But I've been known to do what I please. I'm a maverick, a loose cannon. You don't know what I'm going to do next. Probably some really good work. I ran out of things to say about 2 paragraphs ago, what are you still doing here? You should really be looking at all my academic work, it’s much more impressive and interesting than, whatever this is.
